Hello Pantone Color of the Year 2016!by Leanne Kesler on January 20, 2016 at 11:05 am
Introducing the PANTONE Color(s) of the Year: Rose Quartz 13-1520 and Serenity 15-3919. What a surprise! Color lovers in shock! What?!?! Who chose that? You’ve got to be kidding! I’m stunned! Outrage… The Pantone announcement rocked the world of color watchers across the land.
After months of speculation on what Pantone would announce for the Color of the Year 2016, announced annually in December, everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) was caught by surprise. For the first time ever, Pantone introduced TWO hues for the color of the year.
According to the Pantone experts, “Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.”
According to some color lovers, these colors are more appropriate for a baby shower or gender reveal party. The color of the year duo was not immediately embraced by everyone. And then…it starts to grow on you. In fact, most are starting to love it.
Stepping back, it helps to look to Mother Nature for validation. We all know. Mother knows best! Look up to the sunset skies. Gaze at the cherry blossoms surrounding the Washington Monuments. Look at all the beautiful flowers that match the Rose Quartz and Serenity hues. Even the rainbow in the sky declares approval for the color duo.
Brides were the first to embrace the hues. In fact, they were a bit ahead of the announcement with many weddings showcasing the color palette through 2015. The Bespoke Garden Style bouquet is stunning with Rose Quartz and Serenity hues. Peonies, garden roses, hydrangea and blue hued foliages showcase the colors of the year in elegant style.
A compote design for the table is radiant in the color duo. Look close, the airbrushed succulent in Serenity blue is a surprising accent for the design. Yes, even Mother Nature welcomes a personal touch from the professional florist.
The Pantone group explained the choice with lifestyle references. “As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent. Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”
Yes, a visit to your florist for a meditation design will enhance your well being. Succulents and bulb flowers paired with color enhanced driftwood will chase away the winter blues and bring you inner peace. Maybe those Pantone experts have it right after all. Balance in life represented through color…a little blue, a little pink…feminine and masculine…opposing sides paired harmoniously. Who could ask for more? I’ll choose a “soothing sense of order and peace.” Thank you Pantone! You did it again.
