Oh, Halloween! It’s creeping up on us with gruesome visions of how we’d look as zombies or pirates, and dreams of nightmarish themes that will top last year’s Monster Mash.

Breathe life into your Halloween party by accenting the grim and gory décor with flowers. Surround a tombstone with a bed of roses or carnations or brighten up the mundane macabre of witch and vampire garb with striking orange floral arrangements that will pop amidst a sea of black costumes.

Bright green and purple are also great colors to add a ghouly atmosphere. There are lots of flowers in these color schemes to choose from:

For oranges, try roses, gerbera daisies, calla lilies, Asiatic lilies, dahlias.

For lime greens, look for spider mums, belles of Ireland, Kermit pom pons and hypericum berries.

For deep purples, try dendrobium orchids, gladiolus, carnations, alstroemeria, asters, liatris, calla lilies. Some purple flowers are so dark, they almost look black!

No matter what theme you choose, your local florist can help to incorporate a thrilling flower design into your fright night festivities. Tombstone Flowers for a Zombie Party

Who doesn’t love a good zombie party? Let’s face it, the costumes are pretty easy: torn clothes, green makeup and a prosthetic scab or two. (Gross!) The decorations can be simple for a zombie party as Elegantly Gothic well. Plot the front lawn with faux tombstones and place loose flowers around the graves. Tie the décor from the outdoors inside by having your florist create an arrangement of flowers with a small tombstone in the center. I’ve seen tombstones that are about the size of a shoebox lid that would be ideal in flowers as the centerpiece of the food table. Or pick up a tabletop size coffin for your florist to use as a flower container, and place it on the bar along with some of these cocktails:

Halloween Elegance with Orange Blooms and Black Botanicals

My personal favorite for any centerpiece is a predominately monochromatic display with a variety of flowers. The range of gorgeous orange blooms from textural Dahlias to velvet Coxcomb to feathery Celosia would be stunning in Halloween party flowers. Talk to your florist about the many options in orange (or lime green and purple) and then bring in the classic holiday color combo with black accents such as sprayed leaves, sticks, or something sparkly to add elegance to your Halloween fete. Go with an artistic array of orange and black arrangements for all food and drink tables and give your party the ultimate spirit with these chic orange cocktails:
