Three Simple Tips for Hosting Mother’s Dayby Jeanne Benedict on May 2, 2011 at 10:32 am
Mother’s Day is a time for families to be together. Starting Mother’s Day with a lovely brunch is a perfect way to say thanks and show mom how much she’s appreciated. Here are three simple tips to celebrate the special day:
Tip 1: Have Breakfast in Bed
There’s nothing sweeter than breakfast-in-bed on Mother’s Day with dad and the kids presenting mom with a tray full of goodies and a homemade card. But, many like to spend the day with grandma and close mom friends and other family as well. So, if the get-together is at your home, keep things as easy as possible, and elicit the help of your family, so you can enjoy your day, too.
Tip 2: Plan a Make-Ahead Menu
Host a stress-free brunch by preparing a menu of make-ahead food items that you simply reheat in the morning along with purchased baked goods and select food items. Try two of my favorite make-ahead recipes that will wow your guests and honor mom:
Include a basket of muffins, butter and assorted jams, bagels and cream cheese, and a bowl of fresh fruit and you’re good to go!
Tip 3: Decorate with Celebratory Centerpieces
Of course, the centerpiece of your brunch table will be gorgeous flowers expertly arranged by your own florist who can deliver it the day before. Consider tying in the centerpiece flowers with a single bloom at each place setting or beside a place card. Or you can match the personality of each mom with a symbolic flower that somehow defines her as suggested in this article, “Flower Meanings” on AboutFlowers.com. As you toast the mothers at your table, let them know why you chose the flowers you did based on their personality and how much you appreciate how they are everything to everybody each and every day!

A very Happy Mother’s Day from this party mama to all you flower mamas!
