I love filling my home with flowers, and in the fall, I love displaying flowers in pumpkins. It’s a fun, festive treat for the season, and the kids enjoy it, too. Making a pumpkin vase is pretty easy:

Greene-Pumpkin

  • Select a pumpkin. I find sugar pumpkins also known as pie pumpkins) work better than decorative pumpkins typically used for making jack-o-lanterns. Whichever pumpkin you pick, get one that sits flat and sturdy.
  • Cut off the top, and scoop out pulp and seeds.

  • Place a vase that is slightly shorter than the lip of the pumpkin inside the hollowed-out pumpkin. Fill vase with water.
  • Place flowers in the vase. The arrangement here has yellow poms, peach gerbera, orange roses, salal and bupleurum.

Voila! You have a pumpkin vase filled with flowers.

This time of year, flower shops offer keepsake pumpkin vases and a beautiful selection of flowers in fall colors, and your florist can artfully arrange and deliver them. What a sweet gift to send to a homesick college student, party host, best friend or loved one to make them smile just because.

Who would you send pumpkin flowers to, and why?
