My florist suggested doing both, a bridal bouquet and a special toss bouquet. Good thing, because my bridal bouquet was too pretty to toss.

Whether to toss the bridal bouquet, save it or have two and do both were discussed during our Wedding Flowers & Fun Twitter Party on May 10, and the unanimous decision voiced by attendees: Do both.

“I say bring two! Take one and throw one,” @ashtonzmommi tweeted. @JeanneBenedict shared: “I tossed a stunt bouquet and kept my bouquet to dress up the wedding night suite! Oh la la #cleverflowers.” And @MommyBlogExpert tweeted: “I say toss your bouquet but save part of it for drying before you throw it #cleverflowers.”

Having lived and breathed HBO’s Sex and the City TV series, I was surprised by the Twitter Party’s enthusiasm for the toss bouquet. I was convinced SATC made all brides swear it off. In season 2, the SATC ladies make no attempt to catch a bouquet tossed in their direction, and it lands on the floor in front of them. During Charlotte’s wedding to Harry in season 6, the bouquet knocks Miranda in the head.

So when I was planning my wedding, I did not want to subject my single girl friends to the embarrassing torture of the bouquet toss as seen on SATC. But when I met with my florist to discuss my wedding flowers, she changed my mind. My florist had a fab-u-lous idea, giving a modern twist to tradition and making my bouquet toss a hit.

When I tossed the “bouquet,” it broke into 12 blooms, giving several delighted single ladies a flower to catch.

Just like our Twitter Party guests recommended, my florist suggested doing both, a bridal bouquet and a special toss bouquet that was, as she called it, a “breakaway” bouquet.

With Cyndi Lauper’s anthem “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” blaring, I turned my back to my friends and discreetly untied a ribbon holding 12 flowers together. When I tossed the “bouquet,” it broke into 12 blooms. The flowers soared in all directions, giving several delighted single ladies a flower to catch.

I’m glad I trusted my florist. Her idea for the breakaway bouquet was a fun floral surprise and totally me.

Tell me, did you toss your bridal bouquet, save it or have two so you can do both? What unique floral idea did your florist suggest that you loved?
