Fiery-hued leaves, cinnamon spiced cider, cornstalks, snuggly sweaters, shiny rain boots and pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING! Did you know? There are Pumpkin Spice Cherrios. (Really!) This is the time of year to gather together with friends and family. With the shorter daylight hours and colder temperatures, there is nothing better than entertaining at home. Cozy evenings by the fire, casual dinners and fabulous feasts are in order. And, Thanksgiving is just around the corner.
Autumn entertaining always sounds great. Then, reality sets in. Is the house ready? When was the last time you dusted? Do you have the right hostess outfit? Can the guests wear shoes in the house? And, in today’s jargon, are you “Instagram” ready?
Take a deep breath. With these simple tips, you’ll be ready for Thanksgiving in no time.
Where to begin? Start with the timeless basics. You need plants and candles throughout the house. Plants clean the air (truth) and candlelight hides the dust (more important truth).
Now you’re ready to add the flower touches. A single arrangement will start the conversation and keep the eyes off the house. A favorite? Flowers in a pumpkin. Just look at Pinterest and Instagram – you’ll see zillions of pumpkin flower centerpieces. Thank goodness you don’t have to find the pumpkin, carve it out (eew, pumpkin guts) and do the arrangement. Just call your local florist and they’ll deliver it to your doorstep. Easy, peasy. I promise.
Not a pumpkin kind of person? Take a look at the foraged autumn options. There are so many fabulous, flowers to choose from. Even after the first frost, you can find pods, cones and conifers. Again, don’t make it hard on yourself. You need to spend your time finding the perfect entertaining ensemble. Call your florist and ask for a fabulous, seasonal floral design. They can do the work of finding what is best and perfect for you.
What are your favorite ways to decorate with flowers for Thanksgiving?
