Wonderful Wristlets

by Shelby Shy on February 23, 2017 at 2:44 pm

Prom is such a special time! As a florist for more than 40 years, we have seen the prom corsage design change over the years. Even with all the change, flowers continue to be the star of the corsage, also known as “wristlet.” However, over the past couple of years not only has the flower been the main component of the wristlet, ribbon and flower accents have become a great way to add personality and make your wristlet uniquely yours.  Here are a few:

The blue bom dendrobium orchids are a hit with girls wearing any hue related to blue tones. A peacock feather can add some special flair.

Pavé Floral Designs Rock My World

by Shelby Shy on September 19, 2016 at 5:20 pm

Pave-IMG_9280-Photo-Courtesy-Shirley's-Flowers-&-GiftsPavé floral designs are pure perfection in my world right now. If you are not familiar with this type of floral design, you need to get familiar. If your style is clean, tailored, lush and sophisticated, then this design style is for you.

The term is borrowed from jewelry making, which refers to gem stones set closely together so that no metal is visible underneath.

In a pavé floral design, flower stems are cut short and are clustered tight together to create a dense and lush arrangement.

These type of arrangements are perfect for coffee tables at dinner parties. They are great conversation starters. Read More

Celebrating Father’s Day

by Shelby Shy on June 13, 2016 at 7:52 am

PothosFather’s Day is coming up on Sunday, June 19. It is one of those holidays that can be challenging to find just the right gift.

Lucky for me, my father’s passion is gardening. This year, the big buzz for gardeners is potted flowers and plants, and interesting containers.

Even dads who are non-gardeners appreciate flowers and plants, so consider making your dad smile with a floral gift.

Simple grasses or hanging green pothos in industrial concrete containers make a masculine gift for dad.

Three Hot Prom Accessories

by Shelby Shy on April 27, 2016 at 11:30 am

It is prom season, which means it’s time to partaaaay! Before the party starts, you have to first find the right dress — and then the accessories. And the best accessory is always flowers. Your florist can create the perfect floral accessory for you to match your prom dress and unique style. You’ll be surprised at the options. Below are a few to get you started.

Floral necklaces make a beautifully sophisticated statement, perfect for the trendy personality. Ask your florist to create one for you with your favorite flowers. This floral necklace features eggplant dendrobium orchids, waxflowers and lily grass. Your date can wear a matching boutonnière.

Floral jewelry doesn’t have to be metallic. This colorful bracelet mixes braided ribbon with yellow craspedia and kangaroo paws. If your style is on the artsy side, this may be just for you.

Celebrate Valentine’s Weekend

by Shelby Shy on February 7, 2016 at 1:38 pm

Red roses, chrsanthemums, hypericum berries This year Valentine’s Day is on Sunday, but why not make it a full on Valentine’s Weekend!

Whether you plan to celebrate at home, at a hotel, or out at a restaurant, you should always incorporate flowers. A delivery of flowers creates a “wow” factor that is not soon forgotten!

Home sweet home is always a place to celebrate your love.  Express your passion and send her a lovely mix of red and burgundy flowers.  Here is a cluster of burgundy dianthus, red hypericum berries, red roses and seeded eucalyptus.

White roses, hydrangea, calla liliesGet her out and about to a restaurant to make her feel special!  Make her feel one of a kind too by arranging for an elegant bouquet of all white flowers to be delivered to the table (since everyone else will be receiving pink and red flowers). This beautiful bouquet consists of white calla lilies, hydrangeas and roses.

Red rosesIf you’ve reserved a luxurious hotel room, go all out and have long-stemmed roses waiting. The more the merrier. Some lucky lady is receiving this 100-stem rose bouquet!

Whatever your fancy, your florist can help you enhance a romantic weekend with a floral surprise sure to knock her socks off. Plan ahead (translation: Call NOW!) and they will take care of all the details so you can be “Cupid Extraordinaire!”
